CROSSMEMBER, Front Suspension: Installation
- Slowly raise the crossmember (1) into the mounted position using the transmission jack matching the crossmember to the marked locations on the body made during removal.
- Install six mounting bolts (2) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the steering harness connector (1) to the body harness connector at the bottom of the dash panel.
- Install the tie strap (2) to the crossmember.
- Connect the harness connectors (1) at the steering gear module.
- Install the rear engine mount bracket. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, REAR, INSTALLATION .
- Install the crossunder pipe. Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST CROSSUNDER, INSTALLATION .
- Install the lower load beams. Refer to LOAD BEAM, LOWER, INSTALLATION .
- Insert a pry bar (1) in the opening between the control arm front mounting bolt and the front fascia support beam.
- Pry down the control arm (2) until the ball joint stud is clear of the control arm, align the stud with hole in control arm then slowly release the control arm.
- Install the NEW lower ball joint retaining nut (1) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to FRONT, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the outer tie rod to the knuckle. Refer to TIE ROD, STEERING, INSTALLATION

- Install the stabilizer link studs (2) into the stabilizer bar and install the nuts.
- Hold the stabilizer link studs stationary and tighten the nuts to the proper torque specifications. Refer to FRONT, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- On 4WD vehicles, install the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Refer to INSTALLATION .
- If equipped, install the engine belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, INSTALLATION .
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to INSTALLATION

- Install the intermediate shaft (1) to the steering gear pinion shaft (2).
- Install a NEW intermediate shaft coupling bolt (3) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to COLUMN, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove the steering wheel holder.
- Connect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to NEGATIVE CABLE .
- Check and adjust wheel alignment as necessary. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
