Removal And Installation: Removal
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the engine cover and clean air hose. Refer to HOSE, CLEAN AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the cylinder head cover. Refer to COVER(S), CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.NOTE:
The tensioner pulley bolt is a left-hand thread.
NOTE:The tensioner pulley and bolt are not serviced separately from the tensioner assembly. If the threads or pulley are damaged, the tensioner assembly must be replaced. Refer to TENSIONER, BELT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the bolt (3), dust shield (2) and the tensioner pulley (1).
- Remove the bolt (2) and the idler pulley (1).
- Remove the three water pump pulley bolts (2) and remove the water pump pulley (1).CAUTION:
When aligning timing marks, always rotate engine by turning the crankshaft. Failure to do so will result in valve or piston damage.
- Rotate the crankshaft clockwise (as viewed from the front) to align the timing cover marks (1) placing the number one cylinder piston at top-dead-center on the compression stroke.
- While maintaining this alignment, install the (special tool #9707, Holder, Vibration Damper) (1a) and remove the bolt (1b) and the vibration damper (1c).
- Remove the lower A/C compressor mounting bolt (2).
- Remove the three M8 bolts (3) and the A/C compressor mounting bracket (1).
- Remove the four oil pan to timing chain cover bolts (1).
- Support the engine with a suitable jack.
- Remove the right engine mount insulator. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, RIGHT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove five M10 bolts (3), six M6 bolts (1) and four M8 bolts (2).NOTE:
Lift the engine slightly to remove the two lower M10 bolts (1).
NOTE:It may be necessary to warm the timing chain cover/oil pan interface with a heat gun to help loosen the sealant joint.
- Use a suitable tool (1) to release the timing chain cover from the sealant. To avoid bending the timing chain cover, release the lower flange first then release the upper flange.
- Use the indicated pry points to loosen the seal and remove the engine timing cover (1) from the engine.NOTE:
Do not use oil based liquids, wire brushes, abrasive wheels or metal scrapers to clean the engine gasket surfaces. Use only isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, along with plastic or wooden scrapers. Improper gasket surface preparation may result in engine fluid leakage.
- Place a protective cover (1) in the oil pan to prevent debris from entering the engine.
- Remove the sealant residues from the oil pan, engine block, cylinder head and timing chain cover. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
