Gasoline Engine: Installation

NOTE:

Before installing the valve body, replace the O-ring seals on the fluid transfer tubes. Apply a light coating of assembly lube on the O-rings to ease valve body installation.

  1. If removed, position the internal transmission wire harness into position on the valve body. Refer to HARNESS, INTERNAL WIRE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Tighten the solenoid wire harness connector screws to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Connect the wire harness connector to the transmission fluid pressure transducer.
  4. Clean the mating surfaces between the valve body and the transmission housing with a clean lint-free cloth.

  5. Install the transmission speed sensors and tighten the screw (1) to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  6. Install the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) and tighten the screw to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. Align the valve body with the fluid transfer tubes and align the manual valve with the arm on the manual lever. Install the valve body onto the transmission.
  8. Install the ten bolts to hold the valve body to the transmission housing and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Insert the transmission wire harness connector into the valve body cover with the flat side (2) of the socket on the left and install the retaining clip.
    NOTE:

    If any damage is present to the valve body cover or the valve body cover gasket, replace it with a NEW  valve body cover assembly.

  10. Place the valve body cover in position and install the bolts to hold the valve body cover to the transmission housing and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  11. Install the wire harness retainer bracket to the transmission and tighten the screws.
  12. Position the wire harness in the routing clip.
  13. Connect the transmission wire harness connector and rotate the lock lever clockwise.
  14. Connect the wire harness connector near the retainer bracket.
  15. Snap the engine coolant reservoir into position.
  16. Install the battery tray. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  17. Fill the transmission. Refer to FLUID AND FILTER, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  18. Install the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  19. Install the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  20. Perform the Valve Body Solenoid Learn procedure if the valve body and/or the TCM was replaced during a repair.
  21. Perform Transmission Verification Test-948TE. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST - 948TE 9HP48 .
