Cover(S), Engine Timing: Installation

  1. Clean the engine timing cover and engine block surface.
    NOTE:

    Always install a NEW gasket when servicing the engine timing cover.

  2. Using a NEW gasket, install the engine timing cover (1) and tighten the retaining bolts (2) to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  3. Install and securely tighten the right side coolant tube retaining bolt to the rear of the timing cover (1).

  4. Install the five front oil pan to timing cover bolts (1) and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Install the vibration damper onto the crankshaft. Refer to INSTALLATION  .
  6. Install the generator. Refer to GENERATOR, INSTALLATION .
  7. Install the upper idler pulley and tighten to the proper torque specifications or the power steering pump and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS - GAS , depending on how equipped. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to COMPRESSOR, A/C, INSTALLATION .

  9. Connect the camshaft position sensor (2) wire harness connector (1).
  10. Install the water pump. Refer to PUMP, WATER, INSTALLATION .
  11. Install the supercharger belt tensioner. Refer to TENSIONER, DRIVE BELT, INSTALLATION .
  12. Install the supercharger. Refer to SUPERCHARGER, INSTALLATION .
  13. Change the engine oil filter and fill the crankcase with the specified type and amount of engine oil. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - ENGINE OIL SERVICE  .
  14. Start the engine and check for leaks.
