Cover(S), Engine Timing: Installation

NOTE:

Always install a NEW  timing cover gasket.

  1. Clean the timing cover and engine block sealing surfaces.
  2. Verify that the slide bushings (1) are installed in the timing cover.

  3. Using a NEW  gasket, install the timing cover and tighten the bolts to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.).
    CAUTION:

    To prevent severe damage to the crankshaft, damper, and damper installer, thoroughly clean the damper bore and the crankshaft nose before installing damper.

  4. Install the generator. Refer to 5.7L .

  5. Install the heater tube (2) into the water pump and tighten the bolt (1) to 12 N.m (9 ft. lbs.).
  6. Install the air cleaner resonator support bracket to the water pump.
  7. Connect the coolant temperature sensor (3) wire harness connector.

  8. Install the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) wire harness connector (1).
  9. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to COMPRESSOR, A/C, INSTALLATION .

  10. Install the front oil pan to engine timing cover bolts (1) and tighten to 12 N.m (9 ft. lbs.).

  11. Connect the lower radiator hose (3) to the radiator and secure the hose clamp (2).
  12. Connect the lower radiator hose (3) to the water pump and secure hose clamp (1).
  13. Install the vibration damper. Refer to INSTALLATION  .
  14. Install the transmission skid plate. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  15. Install the front suspension skid plate. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  16. Install the front skid plate. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  17. Change the engine oil filter and fill the crankcase with the specified type and amount of engine oil. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - ENGINE OIL SERVICE  .
  18. Connect the battery negative cable.
  19. Start the engine and check for leaks.
