Cover(S), Engine Timing: Removal

- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
- Remove the front skid plate. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the front suspension skid plate. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the transmission skid plate. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the vibration damper. Refer to REMOVAL

- Remove the lower radiator hose clamp (1) at the water pump.
- Remove the lower radiator hose clamp (2) at the radiator and remove the lower radiator hose (3).
- Remove the five front oil pan to engine timing cover bolts (1).
- Remove the A/C compressor and position aside. Refer to COMPRESSOR, A/C, REMOVAL
.NOTE:
It is not necessary to disconnect the refrigerant lines for A/C compressor removal.
- Disconnect the camshaft position sensor wire harness connector (1).
- Remove the air cleaner resonator support bracket from the water pump.
- Remove the bolt (1) and lift the heater tube (2) out of the water pump.
- Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor (3) wire harness connector.
- Remove the generator. Refer to 5.7L
.NOTE:
It is not necessary to remove the water pump for timing cover removal.
- Remove the bolts (1) and the engine timing cover.
- Verify the timing cover slide bushings (1) remain located in the timing cover.
- Clean the sealing surfaces as necessary.
