Speed Control
The function of speed control allows you to drive at a constant speed without pressing the accelerator pedal. Normal speed control function, which can be activated at approximately 30 km/h (20 mph) and the Speed Limiter are activated by means of the ON/OFF switch (1) on the left of the steering wheel. The resume switch (2) can be pressed to reactivate the speed control function and the small lever can be used to adjust the set speed or set the top speed of the Speed Limiter.
The steering wheel controls are sent to the Body Control Module (BCM) via the Local Interface Network (LIN). The BCM translates the controls received and sends them to the Controller Area Network (CAN). With the system activated, the warning light in the instrument panel comes on, connected via the CAN to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
SET and RES:
The speed is increased by pressing (SET +) or decreased by pressing (SET -) button (3). The speed remains stored and may be resumed at any time by pressing the RES (resume) button. This function is switched off by pressing the Speed Control button again.
The function is also deactivated automatically under the following conditions:
- by pressing the brake pedal.
- by pressing the clutch pedal.
- by turning off the engine.
The modules involved in the Speed Control and Speed Limiter function activate their specific strategies after having received the messages. All the other modules (Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), Transmission Control Module (TCM), and the PCM) involved in this function will operate to help the driver hold the set speed.
SPEED LIMITER FUNCTION
This device allows the vehicle speed to be limited to values which can be programmed by the driver. The maximum speed can be set both with vehicle stationary and in motion. The minimum speed which can be set is approximately 30 km/h (20 mph).
When the device is active, the vehicle speed depends on the pressure at the accelerator pedal, until the set speed limit is reached. If necessary (in the event of overtaking for example), the programmed speed limit can be exceeded by fully depressing the accelerator pedal. By gradually reducing the pressure on the accelerator pedal, the function will be reactivated as soon as the vehicle speed drops below the set speed.
The device can switched on by pressing the specific button on the steering wheel under the Speed Control buttons. The maximum speed can be set both with the vehicle stationary or in motion.
