Engine Mount Neutralization

NOTE:

The (Special Tool No. 2029400090, Tool, Engine Mount Alignment) is required to perform this engine mount neutralization procedure.

  1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  2. Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  3. Remove the battery and battery tray. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  4. Using a feeler gauge (1), check for clearance between the upper and lower isolated components of the right engine mount as shown. If the clearance measures less the 2.0 mm (0.080 in.) the mount is sagged and must be replaced before continuing with the Engine Mount Neutralization procedure. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, LEFT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  or INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  or INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, RIGHT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  6. Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

    NOTE:

    The exhaust pipe may have to be moved to access the rear engine mount to transmission bracket bolt.

  7. Remove the front and rear exhaust pipe hanger bracket bolts (2), support bracket bolt (1) and relocate the front exhaust pipe.

  8. Loosen the rear engine mount to crossmember bolt (1).
  9. Loosen the rear engine mount to transmission bracket bolt (3).

  10. Lower the vehicle so that the tires are approximately 6 inches off the floor.
  11. Support the powertrain with two floor jacks placed under the engine (1) and transmission (2) as shown. Raise the jacks only enough to remove the load from the right and left engine mounts.
    NOTE:

    USE A BLOCK OR PAD LARGE ENOUGH TO AVOID DAMAGING THE OIL PAN

  12. Remove the three right engine mount to timing cover bolts (1).

  13. Remove the three left engine mount to transmission bracket bolts (1).

  14. Install the 2029402090 Right Mount Alignment Tool (1) in the right engine mount until fully seated.
  15. Install a 2029404090 Right Engine Mount Spacer (2) into the two locations as shown in illustration.

  16. Install the 2029401090 Left Mount Alignment Tool (1) in the left engine mount until fully seated.
  17. Install a 2029403090 Left Engine Mount Spacer (2) into the two locations as shown in illustration.

  18. Adjust the two floor jacks so that there is no gap (1) or upward force between the right and left engine mounts and the powertrain mounting surfaces.

  19. Install two right engine mount to timing cover bolts (1) through the two 2029404090 Right Engine Mount Spacers and hand tighten only.

  20. Install two left engine mount to transmission bracket bolts (1) through the two 2029403090 Left Engine Mount Spacers and hand tighten only.

  21. Install the center right engine mount to timing cover bolt (1) and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  22. Install the center left engine mount to transmission bracket bolt (1) and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  23. Remove the two 2029404090 Right Engine Mount Spacers (1).

  24. Reinstall the right engine mount to timing cover bolts (1) and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  25. Remove the two 2029403090 Left Engine Mount Spacers (1).

  26. Reinstall the left engine mount to transmission bracket bolts (1) and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  27. Remove the 2029402090 Right Mount Alignment Tool (1) from the right engine mount.

  28. Remove the 2029401090 Left Mount Alignment Tool (1) from the left engine mount.
  29. Remove the two floor jacks from under the engine and transmission.
  30. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  31. Tighten the rear engine mount to crossmember bolt (1) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  32. Tighten the rear engine mount to transmission bracket bolt (3) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  33. Install the front exhaust pipe support bracket bolt (1) and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  34. Install the front and rear exhaust pipe hanger bracket bolts (2) and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  35. Install the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  36. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.

  37. If required, recover the rubber mount socket (1) from the bottom of the air cleaner body and reinstall it to the right engine mount.
  38. Install the battery tray and battery. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  39. Install the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  40. Install the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
