Sensor, Oxygen: Removal: 3.2L: Rear

The engine is equipped with four heated oxygen sensors:

WARNING:

The exhaust pipes and catalytic converter become very hot during engine operation. Allow the engine to cool before removing the oxygen sensor.

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the resonator Refer to RESONATOR, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL .

    CAUTION:

    When disconnecting the oxygen sensor electrical connector, do not pull directly on the wire going into the sensor. The sensor wiring can be damaged resulting in sensor failure.

  3. Disconnect the heated Oxygen (O2) sensor electrical connectors (1, 2).

  4. Remove the O2 sensors (3, 5).
  5. Clean the exhaust pipe threads using an appropriate tap.
