Engine Timing Verification
CAUTION:
Do not rotate the crankshaft using the damper bolt. The bolt has left-hand threads and can be inadvertently loosened resulting in loss of camshaft timing. Only rotate the damper itself in a clockwise direction (as viewed from the front).
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
- Remove the vacuum pump. Refer to PUMP, VACUUM, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
- Remove the lower gearbox bolts (1a) and remove the dust shield (1b).
- Using the (special tool #2069100090, Holder, Front Damper 3 Pin), rotate the crankshaft clockwise (as viewed from the front) and install the (special tool #2063600090, Pin, Flywheel Locking) timing tool (1) through the crankcase and into the flexplate.
- Install the (special tool #2063500090, Locking, Camshaft) timing tool (1a) on the vacuum pump mounting surface while positioning the pin (1b) in the camshaft hole (1c).
- Install and securely tighten the timing tool bolts in the vacuum pump mounting surface.NOTE:
If the (special tool #2063500090, Locking, Camshaft) bolts can not be installed because the holes are not aligned, the engine timing is not correct and must be reset
Refer to DAMPER, VIBRATION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- If the engine timing is correct, remove the (special tool #2063500090, Locking, Camshaft) and the (special tool #2063600090, Pin, Flywheel Locking).
- Install the dust shield (1a) and tighten the bolts (1b) securing the gearbox to the engine to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the vacuum pump. Refer to PUMP, VACUUM, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
