Pitman Arm: Notes
REMOVAL
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect the track bar from the frame. Refer to TRACK BAR, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

1 - Drag Link Inner Nut 2 - Pitman Arm Nut 3 - Pitman Arm NOTE:Hold the end of the ball stud with a wrench when removing or installing the nuts to prevent damage to the tie-rod.
- Remove the drag link inner nut.
1 - Pitman Arm 2 - Remover, Ball Joint 9360 3 - Drag Link - Using the Ball Joint Remover (special tool #9360, Remover, Ball Joint) or equivalent, separate the drag link from the pitman arm.
- Mark the steering gear shaft and pitman arm for installation reference.
1 - Drag Link Inner Nut 2 - Pitman Arm Nut 3 - Pitman Arm - Remove and DISCARD
the pitman arm nut.
1 - Remover, Pitman Arm 9615A 2 - Pitman Arm - Using (special tool #9615A, Remover, Pitman Arm) or equivalent, remove the pitman arm from the steering gear.
INSTALLATION
During installation, torque the fasteners to the specifications in the torque table(s) below.
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
- Hold the end of the ball stud with a wrench when removing or installing the nut to prevent damage to the tie-rod.
- Install a NEW one piece pitman arm nut w/washer.
- Perform the toe set. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
