Drag Link: Notes

REMOVAL 

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the right front tire. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

    1 - Drag Link Inner Nut
    2 - Drag Link Outer Nut
    NOTE:

    Hold the end of the ball stud with a wrench when removing or installing the nuts to prevent damage to the tie rod.

  3. Remove and DISCARD  the drag link outer nut.
  4. Separate the drag link from the steering knuckle using special tool (special tool #9360, Remover, Ball Joint) separator.
  5. Remove and DISCARD  the drag link inner nut.
  6. Separate the drag link from the pitman arm using special tool (special tool #9360, Remover, Ball Joint) separator.
  7. Remove the drag link.

INSTALLATION 

During installation, torque the fasteners to the specifications in the torque table(s) below.

  1. Position the drag link to the pitman arm.
    NOTE:

    Hold the end of the ball stud with a wrench when removing or installing the nuts to prevent damage to the tie rod.

  2. Install a NEW  drag link inner nut and tighten to the proper torque specifications.
  3. Position the drag link to the steering knuckle.
  4. Install a NEW  drag link outer nut and tighten to the proper torque specifications.
  5. Install the right side tire. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  6. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  7. Set the toe. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
