Drowsy Driver Detection: Notes

OPERATION
The Drowsy Driver Detection (DDD) system uses lane information provided by the Long Range Camera Front (LRCF) to detect lane crossings and. The DDD system also will detect a jerk in the steering wheel movement that is outside the tolerance band that is mapped by the system at the beginning of the ignition cycle.
The DDD system is available for use when the following conditions are met:
- No DDD system faults are detected. Refer to the inputs under DDD algorithm.
- Vehicle speed is at least 65 Km/h (40 Mph) and less then 200 Km/h (124 Mph).
DDD Management - Once the DDD system is available for us, the CADM monitors the steering wheel inputs to create a tolerance based on the following inputs:
- Steering Angle - This signal indicates the steering angle value, counterclockwise positive.
- Steering Angle Type - This signal indicates whether the angle sensor is absolute (all the possible turns/degrees) or not absolute (relative, torque only, etc.).
- Steering Wheel Speed - This signal indicates the steering speed value, counterclockwise positive.
The CADM receives the following signals as part of the DDD algorithm:
- Accelerator pedal position from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
- Brake Pedal State from the Brake System Control Module (BSCM)
- Brake Pedal Fault from the BSCM
- Brake Pedal Torque from the BSCM
- Fog Lamp Switch State from the BCM
- Hazard Switch State from the BCM
- Headlamp Switch Position from the BCM
- High Beam Lever Position from the BCM
- Turn Signal Status from the BCM
- Wiper Switch Position (6 stages) from the BCM
- Backlight wiper and washer switch state from the BCM
- Front Wiper Switch State from the BCM
- Auto wiper System State from the BCM
- Steering wheel Infotainment switch command signals
- Engine Speed Signal from the PCM
- Engine Status Signal from the PCM
- Conventional and Adaptive Speed Control Switch States
- Wheel Speed Signals from the BSCM
- Active Lane Management Torque From the EPS.
- Highway Assist Torque from the EPS
- Steering Column Torque from the EPS
- Shift Lever Position from the Transmission Control Module (TCM)
- Transmission Gear Engaged from the TCM
- Driver Door Open/Close state from the BCM
- Ignition State from the BCM
- First Row Driver Seatbelt Switch status from the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC)
The CADM requests a visual and audible alert when the system detects a drowsy driver. The CADM control the activation and deactivation of the warnings displayed on the IPC. The CADM will continue to display this message until the CADM receives the state of the "OK" button press.
When DDD is enabled but becomes unavailable due to faults in the system, the CADM continuously transmits signal indicating that the system is not available and that a fault is present. The CADM will continue to do this until the system is no longer faulted. When this system is faulted, the CADM instructs the IPC to display a popup message "DROWSY DRIVER NOT AVAILABLE SERVICE REQUIRED".
