Section 1 (Clutches): Description

Clutches are single-disc type. A diaphragm spring is used to engage pressure plate. On Optima & Magentis (Canadian), Sephia, Spectra and Sportage, the clutch is hydraulically operated by a clutch master cylinder and transaxle housing mounted clutch release cylinder. The clutch master cylinder uses fluid from brake master cylinder reservoir. Rio uses a mechanical clutch. On all models, a clutch switch is used to disable starter if clutch pedal is not fully depressed.
