KIA SMART BATTERY TESTER USER GUIDE

SERVICE INFORMATION
This bulletin provides an overview of the Kia Smart Battery Tester, which may be used as part of a diagnosis for battery related repairs, KVID, CVIS, and Customer sales delivery of their new vehicle, and also an overview of the 'Battery Test Portal', a web-based tool to manage dealership users and battery test data collected with the Kia Smart Battery Tester.
- The Smart Battery Tester is a state of the art tool used to perform a battery health test with a reliable diagnosis within forty (40) seconds and then sends the test results to the Kia Smart Battery Tester cloud.
- KMA can access all test results once they are sent to the cloud. Ensure the dealership's Wi-Fi is operational and the smart device's Wi-Fi connection is properly configured to successfully transmit the test results to the cloud. To view the results, download and use the "B2QScan" app on any smart device.
- Wireless printing is available if the dealer prefers, using the recommended printer, REGO RG-MTP58B, available through Snap-on Business Solutions.

APP DOWNLOAD & LOGIN
- Install the B2QScan app from the Google Play™ or App Store™ onto your smart device.
- Launch the B2QScan app on the smart device.
- At initial log-in of a newly downloaded app, the B2Q theme (A) will be shown. Log in using your KDealer credentials
.
- After successfully logging in, sign out of the app by selecting the Log Out icon.
- Completely exit the app by selecting EXIT
.
- Launch the B2QScan app again by tapping its app icon and log in using your KDealer credentials. The app will now utilize Kia's theme (B).
BATTERY INSPECTION PROCEDURE
- Prior to beginning the Battery Inspection Procedure, ensure a 9V battery is installed in the Battery Tester.
- Connect the Battery Tester clamps to the vehicle's battery. Ensure the black clamp is connected to the battery negative "-" terminal and the red clamp is connected to the positive "+" terminal. Start the vehicle.NOTE: Do not use jump start posts for battery testing. Always use the battery posts.
- After login, the Test List screen will display. Select the Begin icon at the upper right corner of the screen to begin a test.
- Select Installed in vehicle under Test A Used Battery. NOTE: The Smart Battery Tester should not be used on lithium or high voltage batteries.
- Begin all Installed in vehicle
tests by selecting Lookup using VIN
in order to associate those tests with a specific vehicle.NOTE: This option (Lookup using VIN) must be used for all warrantable claims.

- Scan the vehicle's VIN barcode, located at the driver side B-pillar or lower driver side of the front windshield (if barcode is available).NOTE:
- In the event of scanning issues, the VIN can also be manually entered by selecting the pen (A) at the bottom left corner of the focus screen.
- The flashlight* can be turned on by selecting the flashlight (B) at the bottom right corner of the focus screen.
*Flashlight function is not available on the KDS/KVID tablets.
- Battery specifications for that specific VIN should then be displayed. Verify the correct battery specification and select Continue to Test
to proceed.
If multiple battery options are available for the vehicle, select the correct option according to the installed battery's specifications (CCA).
If the installed battery is an aftermarket application, select Enter manually.
NOTE: If the Smart Battery Test has already been performed on a specific vehicle, the Prior Test Record will display with the options:- Test the same installed battery
- Test a different installed battery
- Replace and test a NEW battery for this battery
- Select Lookup by BATTERY barcode
if one is present on the battery, then scan the barcode. In most cases, this should automatically add battery testing parameters. Otherwise, select Enter manually from battery label.
- Test values should automatically populate if the barcode is scanned. Confirm values are correct.
If battery testing parameters need to be entered manually, enter the correct values for each line.
- Test Standard: select "CCA"
- Battery Rating: enter CCA rating as specified on battery
- Battery Type: select "WET", "Maintenance Free", or "AGM Flat"
- Voltage: select "12"
- Battery Brand and Battery Model are not required fields.
Once complete, select Scan the Battery Test Code to continue and then scan the QR code (C) shown on the Smart Battery Tester.
NOTE: Do not select AGM Spiral as Kia does not use the type and selecting AGM Spiral/incorrect type may affect battery test results.NOTE: See page 20-21 for details regarding the Battery Tester screens.
Refer to the B2QScan app test result for the accurate CCA value.
- Scan the vehicle's VIN barcode, located at the driver side B-pillar or lower driver side of the front windshield (if barcode is available).
- Battery test results will display on the B2QScan app. Record the Test ID (D) as it is required for all battery-related Warranty claims (tester must be synced)
.
Ensure the smart device is connected to Wi-Fi or cellular. If not connected, the Test ID (D) will not be provided and your device will not be synced to the cloud. "Not Synced" will also be displayed instead of a Test ID.
To sync (to the cloud), return to the home page and select Sync located at the upper right corner of the screen. When synced, the test results will be uploaded to the cloud and a Test ID will be created.
- To send the test report directly to the customer, select Yes
when prompted then enter the customer's email address. Select OK
to send the test.
Select No if the report will not be sent to the customer.
- For additional details of the test result, select the test recommendation. Displayed to the right are two (2) examples for test recommendations. See Appendix 2 on page 22 for details of possible test recommendations.
BATTERY TESTING WITH KVID
- When performing a PDI (section 6), Get-Ready Inspection, and In-Stock Vehicle Maintenance on KVID, an image of the GR8 battery printout or a picture of the Kia Smart Battery Tester connected to the battery is required. You must also manually enter the voltage and battery CCA (enter "123" if the Smart Battery Tester was used).
BATTERY TESTING WITH CVIS
- With the B2QScan app installed on the CVIS tablet, perform the battery test and take a screenshot of the test result.
While performing an inspection using CVIS, attach the screenshot of the Kia Smart Battery Test results to "Battery Condition, Performance & Terminals".
TEST RESULTS PRINTING
- At the Test Summary screen, select the Share
icon located at the upper right corner.
- Select any of the following options and then select Done
.
- "Send Test Report"
- "Send Report to Customer"
- "Save as HTML"
- "Print"
- "Show Link"
- Send Test Report:
Selecting this option will send test report to anyone other than a customer.NOTE: this option will not save the recipient's email address for future emails.
Enter the recipient's email address then select OK to send the email or select Cancel to cancel.
- Send Report to Customer:
Selecting this option will send the test report to customer.
Enter the customer's email address.
- Save as HTML:
Selecting this option will save the test report as a HTML file.
- On Android devices, the file will be saved and accessible in the B2Q folder.
- On iOS devices, the file will only be accessible via iTunes on a computer.
Change the file name if necessary then select OK to save. Select Cancel to cancel.
- Print to POS Printer:
Selecting this option will print a simplified test report from the REGO Point of Sale (POS) printer.NOTE: This option is only available if the REGO printer is powered on and within range of the smart device with Bluetooth® enabled.
- Print:
Selecting this option will display the Printer Options screen.
Select an available printer on dealer's network and the number of copies to print.
NOTE: Dealer network printer must be Google Cloud Print™ and/or Apple AirPrint® enabled for the smart device to "see" the printer. Otherwise, reports may be accessed and printed from the Battery Portal interface or email app on a PC connected to the dealer's network. - Show Link:

BATTERY TEST PORTAL OVERVIEW
- Locate the B2Q Portal
external link on KDealer.NOTE: To fully access the B2Q Portal, you must log in to the B2QScan app on your smart device at least once to automatically register your profile in the Portal.
- Select Proceed
to continue.
- The home page presents a top menu to quickly access views and functions and also includes a table view of the most recently performed tests.
Users may return to this initial view at any time by selecting HOME.
- Selecting TESTS
in the top menu reveals a test list view with search bars and column filters to narrow test results to desired criteria.
Blue icons to the right of each test record enable administrators to:
- View (eye icon)
- Delete individual test records
NOTE: Tests performed without the start of the engine (static battery tests) are highlighted (yellow) in the ID column. Engine start is not necessary to perform the battery test. - Selecting BATTERIES
in the top menu reveals a list of batteries that have been tested. Use the search bar and/or column filters to narrow test results.
- Selecting VEHICLES
in the top menu reveals a list of vehicles that have been tested. Use the search bar and/or column filters to narrow test results.
- Selecting DEVICES
in the top menu reveals a list of Kia Smart Battery Tester devices registered under the user's dealership.
- Selecting the arrow in the top menu reveals SETTINGS or SIGN OUT
.
- Select SETTINGS to view details regarding the dealership and users.
- Select SIGN OUT to sign out of the B2Q Portal.
- If there are any questions, concerns, or feedback regarding the App or Portal, users may select CONTACT and complete the form to contact B2Q Technolgoies.
CABLE REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
- Remove the rear battery cover (A) and 9V battery.
- Remove the four (4) corner screws with a 1.5mm hex key supplied with cable kit.
- Repeat step 2 on the front side.
- Remove the two side impact guards (B) from the tester body.NOTE: To ensure proper installation of the side impact guards, note that the rears of the side impact guards have a straight inner-edge. The fronts of the side impact guards have a notched inner-edge.
- Gently separate the tester body and place the tester body on a flat surface.
- Carefully disconnect the power connector (C) from the printed circuit board (PCB) then using needle-nose pliers, gently wiggle the (+) and (-) white signal wires (D) outward to detach them from the male tabs of the PCB.NOTE: Note the positive (+) and negative (-) tags on the white signal wires and also the "+" and "-" labels printed on the circuit board next to the male tabs.
- 9. Detach the strain relief body (E) from the tester body and remove the old cable set.
- 10. Install the new cable set in the reverse order of removal and ensure the positive (+) signal wire is connected to the "+" male tab of the PCB and the negative (-) signal wire is connected to the "-" tab.
Reconnect the power connector. Be sure to route the power connector wires (F) away from the center, as shown, to prevent pinching by the 9V battery housing.
- 11. Reassemble the tester housing in the reverse order of removal.NOTE: When assembling the housing, ensure the following:
- The top of the plastic housing fits securely into the strain relief body groove.
- The side impact guards are installed directionally.
- Screws are properly installed by tightening each screw until the head just meets the impact guard then turn an additional one full turn.
- 12. Reinstall the 9V battery then attach the tester to a charged 12V battery. The boot screen (G) will appear to confirm proper operation of the tester and new cable set.

APPENDIX 1
Screen Definitions

| Power-on "boot" screen When the tester is first connected to a battery the KIA logo and tester firmware version is displayed for a few seconds, and the firmware version is indicated on the lower part of the screen. Please note that if the display remains "stuck" on a static display from a previous test sequence, the unit likely has a cable failure, and a cable replacement should be attempted prior to requesting a RMA. |

| Test for good connection screen A frown or clamp screen indicates a poor connection to the battery. If either screen appears, un-clamp the tester, clean all connection surfaces, and re-clamp the tester with maximum clamp teeth surfaces in contact with the battery lead (Pb) terminals. If either screen continues to reappear for more than 3 consecutive re-clamp attempts, please contact Snap-on Business Solutions at (888) 542-1011. |

| Resting battery test screen (QR test code) A QR test code containing resting battery test data is displayed, while the lower left text alternates between voltage, estimated Wet CCA, and estimated AGM CCA. If only resting battery test data is desired, Scan the QR test code with the B2QScan app for analysis and recommendations. Otherwise, the cranking (key) icon is a prompt to start the automobile to add cranking and charging system test data. (Not supported by Kia at this time.) |

A QR test code containing resting battery, cranking system, and charging system test data is displayed, while the lower left text alternates between charging voltage, estimated Wet CCA, and estimated AGM CCA. Scan the QR test code with the B2QScan app for analysis and recommendations. (Not supported by Kia at this time.) |

| Stop-engine screen If you attempt to connect the tester to the battery while the engine is running, an icon will prompt you to stop the engine and then reconnect the tester. (Not supported by Kia at this time.) |

| Low internal 9V battery indicator The low battery icon prompts you to replace the internal 9V battery with a fresh one. On the display, the low internal 9V battery icon will alternate with the cranking (key) icon. |

| High-voltage screen An animated clamp icon with ">16V" text is displayed if the battery voltage exceeds 16V. The tester is designed to test single 6,8, and 12V lead acid batteries. DO NOT attach the tester to any battery rated for > 12V, or damage to the tester may result! |

| High temperature screen A high temperature warning screen appears if the battery surface temperature exceeds 176°F. Move the battery to where the ambient temperature range is 14°F to 140°F, and retest after 15 minutes. If this icon persists when the tester is being operated in the rated temperature range of 14°F to 140°F, replace the cable set. If the icon persists after a cable replacement, please contact Snap-on Business Solutions at (888) 542-1011. |

| Low temperature screen A low temperature warning screen appears if the battery surface temperature is below - 4°F. Move the battery to where the ambient temperature range is 14°F to 140°F, and retest after 15 minutes. If this icon persists when the tester is being operated in the rated temperature range of 14°F to 140°F, replace the cable set. | Very low voltage tested battery screen The discharged battery icon indicates the battery being tested is discharged to below 1V, and should be recharged prior to testing. If the discharged battery icon reappears after recharging, the battery is end of life. |
