Operating Principles: Caution

The slide-interlocked headrest function only functions normally when the slide and headrest positions are registered correctly. These setting require the following maintenance operations.

  1. The correct position of the seat may be lost if the slide or headrest recovers from an error, so you must register the seat position again to perform a normal interlocking operation.
  2. If this function does not work, check for a "Headrest Automatic Control Error" message using the GDS scantool. If this message is displayed, perform the forced "Headrest Automatic Control Setting" to register the setting. When finished, check whether the "Headrest Automatic Control Error" message still appears when a diagnostic device is connected.
    1. Perform the "Headrest Automatic Control Setting" operation: Use a diagnostics device to perform the "Headrest Automatic Control Setting" operation. This moves the slides forward and the headrest down (position recognition).
    2. To find out if the setting is successfully registered, check whether the "Headrest Automatic Control Error" message appears on the diagnostic device.
  3. If you replace the driver's side IMS unit (PSM) or the seat, perform the registration procedure outlined in paragraph 1.
