Repair Procedures: Replacement
- Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
- Recover the refrigerant with a recovery/recycling/charging station.
- When the engine is cool, drain the engine coolant from the radiator.
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "COOLANT ")
- Remove the bolts (A) and the expansion valve (B) from the evaporator core.
Tightening torque:
7.8 - 11.7 N.m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf.m, 5.7 - 8.6 lb-ft)
CAUTION:- Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to avoid moisture and dust contamination.
- When installing, replace with a new O-ring.
- Disconnect the inlet (C) and outlet (D) heater hoses from the heater unit.
Tightening torque:
7.8 - 11.7 N.m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf.m, 5.7 - 8.6 lb-ft)

CAUTION: Engine coolant will run out when the hoses are disconnected; drain it into a clean drip pan. Be sure not to let coolant spill on electrical parts or painted surfaces. If any coolant spills, rinse it off immediately. - Remove the cowl top cover.

- Remove the front wiper motor.
(Refer to Body Electrical System - "FRONT WIPER MOTOR ")
- Remove the front seat assembly.
(Refer to Body - "FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY ")
- Remove the front pillar trim.
(Refer to Body - "FRONT PILLAR TRIM ")
- Remove the floor console assembly.
(Refer to Body - "FLOOR CONSOLE ASSEMBLY ")
- Remove the shift lever assembly.
(Refer to Manual Transaxle System - "SHIFT LEVER ")
(Refer to Automatic Transaxle Control System - REMOVAL ")
- Remove the cowl side trim.
(Refer to Body - "COWL SIDE TRIM ")
- Remove both sides of the crash pad side cover.
(Refer to Body - "CRASH PAD SIDE COVER ")
- Remove the crash pad lower panel.
(Refer to Body - "CRASH PAD LOWER PANEL ")
- Remove the steering wheel and column.
(Refer to Steering System - "STEERING COLUMN AND SHAFT ")
- Remove the glove box housing.
(Refer to Body - "GLOVE BOX HOUSING ")
- After loosening the mounting nut, remove the console duct (A).
- Disconnect the passenger compartment junction box connectors (A).
- Disconnect the multi box connectors (A).

- Disconnect the airbag control module (SRSCM) connector (A).
- Remove the wiring mounting clips (A).
- Disconnect the shift lever connector (B).
- Disconnect the connectors (A) and the mounting clips in the front pillar.
[Passenger's side]
- Loosen the mounting bolts.
- Loosen the cowl cross member assembly mounting bolts (A).
- Loosen the drain hose fixing clip under the vehicle.
- Disconnect the heater and blower unit connectors.
- Remove the heater & blower unit (A) from the crash pad after loosening the mounting nuts.
- Separate the blower unit from the heater unit after loosening the screws.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
