SERVICE INFORMATION
This Pitstop provides information on how to check a USB multi-box for possible connection issues and guidance on resolving Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connection concerns. It also explains the difference between USB port 2.0 and USB port 3.0.
CHECKING CONNECTIONS FROM USB AND HEAD UNIT
Before considering replacement of the head unit, check the USB cable/harness for a loose connection on the back of the head unit and multi-box. Due to a soft set connection, disconnecting and reconnecting the cable can sometimes restore multi-box functionality.

CASES OF DAMAGE TO MULTI-BOX
If there is physical damage to the multi-box, as seen below, replace the multi-box.
Damage to the USB port can cause misconnection
Damage at the back of the multi-box can cause improper multi-box functionality.
MULTI-BOX GUIDELINE FOR ANDROID AUTO AND APPLE CARPLAY
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay rely on the connection between the customer's phone and head unit. Use the guideline below to prevent Android Auto/Apple CarPlay "No Trouble Found" (NTF) claims, which are subject to chargeback:
- Have a known good OEM phone cord (Android or Apple) to test connection between multi-box and phone.
- If possible, examine the customer's phone cord (micro-USB, lighting, C-type USB, etc.) for wear and tear. If the connection at the phone's USB port appears loose, recommend replacing the USB cable.
- Excess lint, corrosion or debris in the phone's USB port can also interfere with the connection. Make sure there is not a soft set connection from the cable harness that connects from the back of the multi-box and head unit as shown above.
- If the issue duplicates, inspect the vehicle's USB port for damage and replace if visible.
- If the customer's phone and USB cable connect properly in a known good vehicle, replace the multi-box (not the head unit).
