Automatic Transaxle Fluid (ATF) Level Check

NOTE: When checking the ATF level, be careful not to allow foreign substance (like dust) to enter through the filler hole.

Remove the battery and battery tray.
(Refer to Engine Electrical System - "BATTERY REMOVAL ")
Add 0.7 liter of ATF SP-IV after removing the eyebolt (A).

Start the engine to heat up the ATF.
NOTE: Do not step on the brake and accelerator simultaneously to heat up the ATF.
Check that the temperature of the ATF is between 50°C and 60°C (122-140°F) using the KDS.
Move the shift lever slowly from "P" to "D", then back to "P". Repeat this sequence a total of two times and then move the shift lever to "N" range.
NOTE: Pause in each range for more than 2 seconds.
Remove the under cover.
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")
Lift the vehicle and remove the ATF level plug (A) from the valve body cover.
NOTE: When removing the ATF level plug, keep the vehicle horizontal.

Check the ATF level.
Normal: ATF flows out in a thin oil stream.

Excessive (abnormal) : ATF flows out over 0.9 liter for 2 minutes.

Insufficient (abnormal) : There is no fluid flow.

NOTE: If the ATF level is too high or low, follow the instructions below.
- Excessive: Drain until the ATF flows out in a thin oil stream.
- Insufficient: Add until the ATF flows out in a thin oil stream.
Install the ATF level plug (A).
NOTE: The existing ATF level plug O-ring (A) must be replaced with new one. (Do not reuse it.)

Lower the vehicle and install the eyebolt (A).
Tightening torque: 4.9 ~ 5.9 N.m (0.5 ~ 0.6 kgf.m, 3.6 ~ 4.3 lb-ft)

NOTE: The existing eyebolt O-ring (B) must be replaced with new one. (Do not reuse it.)
