Removal And Installation

  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  2. Remove the engine room under cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  3. Drain the Coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")

  4. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  5. Disconnect the wiring connectors and harness clamps and remove the connector brackets around the water temperature assembly.

  6. Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and the purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) hose (B).

  7. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A).

  8. Disconnect the purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) hose (A) and the vacuum hose (B).
  9. Remove the EGR cooler pipe C (C).

    Tightening torque: 

    18.6-23.5 N.m (1.9-2.4 kgf.m, 13.7 - 17.4 lb.ft)

  10. Disconnect the oil cooler coolant hose (D).

  11. Disconnect the EGR cooler coolant hose (A).

  12. Remove the EGR cooler pipe B (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    18.6-23.5 N.m (1.9-2.4 kgf.m, 13.7 - 17.4 lb.ft)

  13. Remove the electric control EGR valve from the water temperature assembly.

    (Refer to Engine Control/Fuel System - "ELECTRIC EGR CONTROL VALVE ")

  14. Remove the water temperature control assembly (A).

    Tightening torque 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  15. Install in the reverse order of removal
    NOTE:
    • Always use a new water temperature control assembly O-ring.
    • Clean surface on the O-ring and install the O-ring after wetting with water.
