Repair Procedures: Removal
This working procedure dose not require engine and transaxle assembly removal.
CAUTION:
In case of removing the high pressure fuel pump, high pressure fuel pipe, delivery pipe, and injector, there may be injury caused by leakage of the high pressure fuel. So don't do any repair work right after engine stops.
NOTE:
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion
- Remove the timing chain cover, first remove the VFS (bearable force solenoid valve.)
Information
Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
- Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
- Remove the engine cover.

- Remove the engine room under cover.
(Refer to " Removal And Installation ")
- Drain the coolant.
(Refer to " Replacement And Air Bleeding ")
- Drain the engine oil.
(Refer to " Replacement ")
- Remove the drive belt.
(Refer to " Removal ")
- Remove the crankshaft damper pulley.
(Refer to " Removal And Installation ")
- Remove the drive belt tensioner.
(Refer to " Removal And Installation ")
- Remove the alternator.
(Refer to " Removal ")
- Remove the cylinder head cover.
(Refer to " Removal ")
- Remove the water pump.
(Refer to " Removal and Installation ")
- Remove the oil pan
(Refer to " Removal ")
- Install the jack to the edge of lower crankcase.NOTE: Put the rubber block between the jack and lower crankcase to avoid damaging the lower crankcase.
- Remove the engine mounting support bracket and the engine mounting bracket.

- Disconnect the engine ground cable (A).
Tightening torque:
10.7 -13.7 N.m (1.1 -1.4 kgf.m, 7.9 -10.1 lb.ft)
- Remove the variable force solenoid (VFS) valve (A).NOTE: When removing the timing chain cover, be sure to remove the variable force solenoid (VFS) valve first.
- Remove the turbocharger coolant hose and pipe (A).
Tightening torque:
9.8-11.8 N.m (1.0-1.2 kgf.m, 7.2-8.7 lb.ft)
- Remove the timing chain cover (A) with the engine hangers.NOTE: When removing the timing chain cover, be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of cylinder block, cylinder head and lower crankcase.
