Repair Procedures: Replacement: Notes

  1. Remove the front wheel and tire.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "WHEEL ")

  2. Disconnect the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle by using the SST (09568-2J100).
    1. Remove the snap pin (A).
    2. Remove the lock nut (B).

      Tightening torque: 

      34.3 - 44.1 N.m (3.5 - 4.5 kgf.m, 25.3 - 32.5 lb.ft)

      NOTE: Do not reuse lock nut.
    3. Disconnect the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle by using the SST (09568-2J100).

  3. Remove the split pin (A) and lower arm mounting bolt and nut (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb.ft)

  4. Detach the front lower arm from the front knuckle using the SST (0K545-A9100).
    1. After removing bolts from the front knuckle, install and tighten the sub body bolt (A).
    2. Insert the sub body (B) between the front knuckle and the sub body bolt.
    3. Tighten the bolt (C) sub body to broaden the gap of the front knuckle.

    4. Install the safe wire (A).

    5. Install the main body (A) between the front strut and the lower arm.

    6. To avoid the main body coming off, install a fixing clamp (A) beside the main body.
    7. Rotate the handle (B) clockwise until the clamp is fixed on the lower arm.

    8. Tighten the main body bolt (A) slowly and remove the lower arm from the front knuckle.

  5. By hammering on a chisel, unlock the driveshaft lock hub nut caulking.

    NOTE: If there is screw thread (A) on the end of the nut, unlock the caulking by using a chisel and then loosen the nut to prevent damaging driveshaft screw thread.

  6. Remove the caulking nut (A) from the front axle.

    Tightening torque: 

    294.2 - 313.8 N.m (30.0 - 32.0 kgf.m, 217.0 - 231.5 lb.ft)

    NOTE:
    • The driveshaft lock nut must be replaced with new one. When replacing the drive lock hub nut, use only the nut with screw thread (A) on the end.

    • Tighten the driveshaft lock hub nut to the specified tightening torque, and caulk by using a chisel and hammer.
    • If there are two key seats, perform on all two seats.

    Caulking depth (A)  : 1.5 mm (0.0591 in)

  7. Using a SST (09517-4E000), disconnect the driveshaft from the axle hub.

    NOTE: Do not pull or twist excessively to remove the axle when the drive shaft is disassembled.
  8. Using a pry bar, remove the front drive shafts (A).

    NOTE:
    • Use a pry bar being careful not to damage the transmission and joint.
    • Do not insert the pry bar too deep, as this may cause damage to the oil seal.
    • Do not pull the drive shaft by excessive force it may cause components inside the joint kit to dislodge resulting in a torn boot or a damaged bearing.
    • Plug the hole of the transaxle case with the oil seal cap to prevent contamination.
    • Support the driveshaft properly.
      • Be careful that the drive shaft is not bent or drop down by other component's weight (such as axle etc.)
    • Replace the retainer ring whenever the driveshaft is removed from the transaxle case.
  9. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  10. Check the front alignment.
