Removal And Installation

  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  2. Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
  3. Remove the driver airbag module.

    (Refer to Restraint - "DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING ")

  4. Disconnect the steering wheel connector (A).

  5. Loosen the bolt (A) and then remove the steering wheel (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    44.1 - 49.0 N.m (4.5 - 5.0 kgf.m, 32.5 - 36.2 lb.ft)

    NOTE:
    • When removing the steering wheel, do not impact it by hammering as it may damage the steering column.
    • Do not reuse the steering lock bolt.
    • When assembling, match the gear teeth as shown in the illustration below.

  6. Remove the steering column shroud panel.

    (Refer to Body - "STEERING COLUMN SHROUD PANEL ")

  7. Remove the clock spring.

    (Refer to Restraint - "DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING ")

  8. Remove the multifunction switch assembly.

    (Refer to Body Electrical System - "MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH ")

  9. Remove the crash pad lower panel.

    (Refer to Body - "CRASH PAD LOWER PANEL ")

  10. Disconnect the MDPS connector (A).

  11. Disconnect all connectors connected to the steering column.
  12. Loosen the bolt (A) and then remove the universal joint (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb.ft)

    NOTE:
    • Do not reuse the bolt.
    • Lock the steering wheel in the straight ahead position to prevent the damage of the clock spring inner cable.
    • When assembling, insert the shark pin (B) into the universal joint yoke slot (A) as shown in the illustration below.

  13. Loosen the steering column lower mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    53.9 - 58.8 N.m (5.5 - 6.0 kgf.m, 39.8 - 43.4 lb.ft)

  14. Loosen the steering column upper mounting nuts (A) and then remove the steering column & shaft (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    24.5 - 29.4 N.m (2.5 - 3.0 kgf.m, 18.1 - 21.7 lb.ft)

  15. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  16. Perform the "Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Calibration" and "EPS Type Recognition".
