Removal And Installation: Removal

WARNING:
  • When working on the high voltage system, the work should be performed by technicians who have completed the relevant training. A lack of understanding of the high voltage system can lead to serious accidents due to electric shock or short circuit.
  • When working on the high voltage system or related components, be sure to observe and be aware of the "Safety Precautions, Cautions and Warnings". If not, it may cause serious accidents due to electric shock or short circuit. Refer To HIGH VOLTAGE SYSTEM GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION AND CAUTION
  • When working on high voltage system, make sure to check the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and high voltage shut-off procedure. Refer To High Voltage Shut-Off Procedures
  1. Align the steering wheel straight.
  2. Turn the IG OFF, separate the auxiliary battery (12 V) (-) terminal, and disconnect the high voltage service interlock connector.
    1. Remove the front trunk pad (A).

    2. Remove the auxiliary battery (12 V) service cover (A).

    3. Disconnect the auxiliary battery (12 V) negative (-) terminal (A) after loosening the nut.

      Tightening torque:  7.8 - 9.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.0 kgf-m, 5.8 - 7.2 lb-ft)

    4. Remove the high voltage service interlock connector (A).

    WARNING: Wait more than 5 minutes for capacitor of the high voltage battery system to be discharged completely.
  3. Remove the driver airbag module.

    (Refer to Restraint - " DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB)  ") 

    CAUTION: If the airbag is deployed, there may be a risk of injury, so always store the detached airbag module with the cover facing upwards.
  4. Disconnect the steering wheel connector (A).

  5. Mark 3 points (A) on the column housing assembly and the steering wheel.

  6. Remove the steering wheel (A) after removing the bolt.

    Tightening torque:  39.2 - 49.0 N.m (4.0 - 5.0 kgf-m, 28.9 - 36.2 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Do not use a hammer when removing steering wheel, the steering column may be damaged if using a hammer.
    • Do not reuse the steering wheel bolt.
