The main features of CAN (Controller Area Network) bus system are:

• A data-transfer rate up to 1 Mbit/s for the high-speed CAN and up to 125kbit/s for the low-speed CAN.
• Signals are broadcast in both directions.
• The multi-master principle.
• High availability by locating failed control units.
• Standardization in accordance with ISO 11898.
