Ignition Systems: Distributor: Removal

1. Disconnect the battery negative lead.
2. Disconnect the vacuum hose.
3. Remove the distributor cap.
4. Disconnect low tension lead from the coil.
5. Mark distributor body in relation to center line of rotor arm. See Fig 1 .
6. Add alignment marks to distributor and front cover. See Fig 2 .
NOTE: Marking distributor enables refitting in exact original position, but if engine is turned while distributor is removed, complete ignition timing procedure must be followed. See ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS -- RANGE ROVER article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
7. Release the distributor clamp and remove the distributor.
