Swivel Pin Preload Setting

NOTE: Swivel pins are located in the front steering knuckles. The swivel pin preload setting must be checked and set.
  1. On non ABS vehicles, see DIFFERENTIALS & AXLE SHAFTS - FRONT - 3.9L & 4.2L article in DRIVE AXLES. Note that a pull load of 2.6-3.2 Lbs (1.16-1.46 kg) is required after the axle shaft and swivel housing seal have been removed.
  2. On 1990 model year ABS vehicles, see DIFFERENTIALS & AXLE SHAFTS - FRONT - 3.9L & 4.2L article in DRIVE AXLES. Note that a torque to turn of 45-65 INCH lbs. (5.1-7.3 N.m) is required after the axle shaft and swivel housing seal have been removed.
  3. On 1991-92 model year ABS vehicles, see DIFFERENTIALS & AXLE SHAFTS - FRONT - 3.9L & 4.2L article in DRIVE AXLES. Note that a torque to turn of 18-25 INCH lbs. (2.0-2.8 N.m) is required after the axle shaft and swivel housing seal have been removed.
  4. If steering stiffness still persists carry out steering column alignment. See STEERING COLUMN ALIGNMENT  .
