Instrument Panels: Description

NOTE: For instrument panel information not covered in this article, see appropriate BODY ELECTRICAL CONTROL MODULE SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

On Range Rover, the instrument cluster consists of an analog speedometer, tachometer, coolant temperature gauge and fuel gauge. Warning indicators include seat belt, oil pressure, coolant temperature, parking brake/system, ABS, charging system, SERVICE ENGINE SOON, SRS, turn signal, trailer direction signal, high beam, traction control, air suspension, transfer gearbox, low fuel and service engine reminder.

The Body Electrical Control Module (BECM) communicates with the instrument cluster via a digital serial data bus. The serial data bus reduces the number of wires which would normally be required between the instrument cluster and BECM. All the wires in the data bus are duplicated to increase the reliability of the connections. The speedometer, audible warning sounder, tachometer and the power supply each have their own dedicated lines. All other communications are directed via the data bus.
