Power Flows: Notes

Operation of the transmission is controlled by the EAT ECU which electrically activates various solenoids to control the transmission gear selection. The sequence of solenoid activation is based on programmed information in the ECU memory and physical transmission operating conditions such as vehicle speed, engine load, throttle position and selector lever position.

Engine torque is transferred, via operation of single or combinations of clutches, to the planetary gear train. The planetary gear train is controlled by reactionary inputs from brake clutches and the freewheel clutch to produce five forward gears and one reverse gear. See Fig 1.

The following tables show which clutches are operating for selected gear ratios and which solenoids are activated to produce the required torque output from the transmission. See Fig 2 and Fig 3 .
