Service Precautions
Observe the following precautions when servicing air bag systems:
- Before servicing air bag system or any steering column components, disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG, SYSTEM .
- Before servicing air bag system or any steering column components, disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG, SYSTEM .
- Air bag system voltage is maintained for about 20 MINUTES after system is disabled. Wait at least 20 MINUTES after system is disabled before servicing, as air bag may accidentally deploy, causing personal injury.
- Because of critical system operating requirements, DO NOT service any air bag system component.
- DO NOT leave air bag parts unattended. Install air bag parts in vehicle immediately after obtaining them.
- DO NOT use air bag components that have been dropped from a height of 18" or more.
- DO NOT allow chemical cleaners, oil or grease to contact vinyl covering on air bag unit.
- DO NOT place stickers or covers on steering wheel. Always disable air bag system before performing electric welding.
- Air bag system can only be tested with Air Bag Tester (1619). DO NOT use test light on air bag system.
