Idle Speed

CAUTION: Some tachometers may not be compatible with ignition system. Consult tachometer manufacturer before connecting tachometer to system. DO NOT allow tachometer terminal to become grounded, or ignitor and/or coil may be damaged.
NOTE: Idle speed is computer controlled.

Connect tachometer to terminal IG- of DLC. See Figure.For DLC location, see DATA LINK CONNECTOR under IGNITION TIMING. Start engine. Compare actual idle speed with specified idle speed. See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS table. If idle speed is not within specification, go to IDLE CONTROL SYSTEM in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article.
