Steering Gear: Disassembly
- Attach steering gear to holding fixture. Mount assembly in vise. Remove sector shaft adjusting screw lock nut and end cover retaining bolts. See Fig 1.
- Rotate sector shaft adjusting screw clockwise to remove end cover. Using plastic mallet, tap sector shaft from housing. See Fig 1. Remove plunger guide nut, "O" ring, spring, plunger guide, and plunger. Remove worm gear valve body assembly bolts. Hold power piston while rotating worm shaft clockwise. Remove valve body and power piston as an assembly. Remove "O" rings.CAUTION: Ensure power piston does not come off worm shaft. DO NOT disassemble valve assembly or power piston.
- If removing needle bearings, remove oil seal, snap ring, spacer, Teflon ring, and "O" ring. See Fig 1. Press needle bearings from housing using Remover/Installer (09631-00070 or 09631-00090).
