Actuator Check

NOTE: Actuator check is performed using manufacturer's actuator checker (09990-00150) and harness adapters. If actuator does not operate as described, check solenoid relay and motor relay (DTC 11, 12, 13, and 14). If solenoid and/or motor relay are abnormal, replace appropriate relay and repeat actuator check.
  1. Turn ignition off. Ensure battery voltage is 10-14 volts. Disconnect 2 hydraulic booster electrical connectors. Connect actuator checker and FRONT labeled harness adapter to hydraulic brake booster following manufacturer's instructions. Connect Red cable of checker to positive battery terminal and Black cable to negative battery cable or body ground.
  2. Place Sheet "G" FRONT (09990-00240) onto actuator checker. See Fig 1. Ensure ignition is off. Fully pump brake pedal 40 times. Turn ignition on. Monitor pump motor operation. If pump motor does not operate, inspect and replace harness and/or pump motor.
CAUTION: Do not push and hold SA1 and SA2 buttons on actuator checker for longer than 10 seconds. Wait at least 20 seconds between testing intervals.
  3. Inspect ABS switching solenoid operation. Push and hold SA1 and SA2 buttons simultaneously on actuator checker. Firmly depress and hold brake pedal. If brake pedal can be depressed, replace hydraulic brake booster.
  4. Release SA1 button. If brake pedal can be depressed, replace hydraulic brake booster. Release SA2 button. If brake pedal can be depressed, replace hydraulic brake booster.
CAUTION: Do not push and hold MAIN and SA1 buttons on actuator checker for longer than 10 seconds. Wait at least 20 seconds between testing intervals.
  5. Inspect right front ABS solenoid operation. Turn actuator checker selector knob to RH position. Push and hold MAIN and SA2 buttons simultaneously on actuator checker. Firmly depress and hold brake pedal. If brake pedal can be depressed, replace hydraulic brake booster.
  6. Release MAIN and SA2 buttons simultaneously. If brake pedal cannot be depressed, replace hydraulic brake booster. Release brake pedal.
CAUTION: Do not push and hold MAIN and SA1 buttons on actuator checker for longer than 10 seconds. Wait at least 20 seconds between testing intervals.
  7. Firmly depress and hold brake pedal. Push and hold MAIN button on actuator checker. If brake pedal can be depressed, replace hydraulic brake booster. Release MAIN button. If brake pedal cannot be depressed, replace hydraulic brake booster.
  8. Inspect left front ABS solenoid operation. Turn actuator checker selector knob to LH position. Push and hold MAIN and SA1 buttons simultaneously on actuator checker. Firmly depress and hold brake pedal. If brake pedal can be depressed, replace hydraulic brake booster.
  9. Release MAIN and SA1 buttons simultaneously. If brake pedal cannot be depressed, replace hydraulic brake booster. Release brake pedal.
  10. Firmly depress and hold brake pedal. Push and hold MAIN button on actuator checker. If brake pedal can be depressed, replace hydraulic brake booster. Release MAIN button. If brake pedal cannot be depressed, replace hydraulic brake booster.
  11. Turn ignition off. Disconnect FRONT labeled harness connector and connect REAR labeled actuator checker connector. Place Sheet "G" REAR (09990-00240) onto actuator checker. Lift and support vehicle. Start and operate engine at idle.
  12. Inspect rear ABS position. Turn selector switch to RH position. Depress brake pedal several times and release pedal when pump begins rotating. When pump stops, turn ignition off. With firm pressure on brake pedal, inspect reservoir tank fluid level.
  13. Press MAIN button for 10 seconds and release. Inspect reservoir tank fluid level. If fluid level rises, replace hydraulic brake booster.
  14. Check if brake pedal is easy to depress. If pedal is hard to depress, replace hydraulic brake booster. Start and idle engine. Depress brake pedal. Release parking brake pedal and shift selector lever to "L" position. Release brake pedal. Firmly depress brake pedal. Push and hold MAIN button on actuator checker. Attempt to rotate right rear wheel. If wheel cannot be rotated, replace hydraulic brake booster.
  15. Stop engine and lower vehicle. Remove actuator checker and reconnect hydraulic brake booster harness connectors. Clear DTC. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES .
