Brake Pedal Free Play
NOTE:
If brakelight switch clearance is adjusted correctly, brake pedal free play will usually meet specifications.
- Brake pedal free play is distance brake pedal travels before feeling resistance with engine off. With engine off, depress brake pedal several times to exhaust vacuum from power brake unit. Depress brake pedal about .04-.12" (1.0-3.0 mm) by hand until resistance is felt. Free play to first point of resistance is due to play between clevis and pin. Measure travel until a second point of initial resistance is felt.
- Brake pedal free play should be .04-.24" (1.0-6.0 mm). If free play is not within specification, check brakelight switch clearance. See BRAKELIGHT SWITCH . If brakelight switch clearance is okay, check brake system. See DISC article.
