Inspection Procedure

  1. Remove the door trim panel and service hole cover. See DOOR TRIM PANEL (FRONT) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS & LIFTGATE article in DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS. Disconnect the door unlock detection switch connector. Check continuity between terminals of the door unlock detection switch connector. Connect the positive (+) lead to terminal No. 1 and the negative (-) lead to terminal No. 4. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . See INSPECTING DOOR UNLOCK DETECTION SWITCH CONTINUITY  table. If continuity is OK, go to the next step. If continuity is not good, replace the door unlock detection switch in the door lock assembly. See DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY (FRONT) or DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY (REAR) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS & LIFTGATE article in DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS.

Switch Condition Tester Connection Specified Condition
    Door Unlock 1 - 4 Continuity
    Door Lock ..... No Continuity
  2. Check the harness and connectors between the theft deterrent ECU and door unlock detection switch, door unlock detection switch and body ground. For 2001 vehicles, see ANTI-THEFT in 2001 SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. For 2002 vehicles, see ANTI-THEFT in 2002 SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. If the results are OK, check and replace the theft deterrent ECU. When there is a malfunction where the anti-theft system cannot be set, proceed to the next circuit inspection of the problem symptom. See PROBLEM SYMPTOM INDEX  table. If the results are not good, repair or replace the harness or connector.
