Component Tests: Tachometer

    CAUTION: Reversing the connection of the tachometer will damage the transistors and diodes inside. When removing and installing the tachometer, be careful not to drop or subject it to heavy shocks.
  1. On-Vehicle Inspection -  Connect a tune-up test tachometer and start the engine. Compare the tester and tachometer indications (DC 13.5 Volts at 77°F (25°C)). See INSPECTING TACHOMETER ON-VEHICLE  table.

  2. Resistance Inspection -  Measure the resistance between terminals with fixing pointer to the stopper. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . See INSPECTING RESISTANCE WITH FIXING POINTER TO STOPPER  table. If the resistance value is not as specified, replace the meter. See COMBINATION METER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
