Inspection Procedure

NOTE: If not using the hand-held tester, start the inspection from step  2.
  1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. See Figure. Check the engine hood courtesy switch using DATA LIST. If the results are OK, proceed to the next circuit inspection of the symptom. See PROBLEM SYMPTOM INDEX  table. If the results are not good, go to the next step.
  2. Remove the engine hood lock assembly. Disconnect the engine hood courtesy switch connector. Check continuity between terminals 1 and 2 when the engine hood lock is locked and unlocked. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . See INSPECTING ENGINE HOOD COURTESY SWITCH CONTINUITY  table. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, replace the engine hood courtesy switch.
INSPECTING ENGINE HOOD COURTESY SWITCH CONTINUITY

Engine Hood Lock Tester Connection Specified Condition
    LOCK ..... No Continuity
    UNLOCK 1 - 2 Continuity
  3. Check the harness and connector between the theft deterrent ECU and switch, switch and body ground. If the results are OK, check and replace the theft deterrent ECU. If the results are not good, repair or replace the harness or connector.
  4. Disconnect the connector from the switch and inspect the connector on the wiring harness side. Check if there is continuity between terminal 2 and ground. If the circuit is not as specified, inspect the power source or wiring harness. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION .
