Remove & Install
- Disconnect battery negative terminal.
- Drain automatic transmission fluid:
- Remove the drain plug, gasket and drain the ATF.
- Install a new gasket and the drain plug. Tighten drain plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove automatic transmission oil pan sub-assy:
- Remove the 20 bolts, oil pan and gasket. See Fig 1.
- Remove the 3 magnets from the oil pan. See Fig 2.
- Examine particles in pan.
NOTE: Collect any steel chips with the removed magnets. Carefully look at the foreign objects and particles in the pan and on the magnets to guess at the type of wear which might be found in the transmission. Steel (magnetic) ... bearing, gear and clutch plate wear Brass (non-magnetic) ... bushing wear - Remove valve body oil strainer assy:
- Disconnect transmission wire. See Fig 5:
- remove bolt and lock plate, and separate the ATF temperature sensor.
- Remove the 2 bolts and 2 clamps.
- Separate the 9 connectors from the solenoid valves.
- Remove transmission wire: See Fig 6.
- Disconnect the transmission wire connector.
- Remove the bolt and pull out the transmission wire.
- Install transmission wire. See Fig 6:
- Coat an "O" ring of the transmission wire connector with ATF.
- Install the transmission wire with the bolt. Tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the transmission wire connector.
- Connect transmission wire. See Fig 5:
- Coat a new "O" ring of the ATF temperature sensor with ATF.
- Connect the 9 connectors to the solenoid valves.
- Install the 2 clamps with the 2 bolts. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the ATF temperature sensor and lock plate with the bolt. Tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install valve body oil strainer assy. See Fig 3:
- Coat a new "O" ring with ATF.
- Install the "O" ring.
- Install the oil strainer with the 4 bolts. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install automatic transmission oil pan sub-assy:
- Install the 3 magnets in the oil pan. See Fig 2.
- Using a new gasket, install the oil pan with the 20 bolts to the transmission case. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect battery negative terminal.
- Add automatic transmission fluid. See DRAINING & REFILLING under LUBRICATION.
- Reset memory. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
- Perform initialization. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
NOTE:
Some fluid will remain in oil pan.
NOTE:
Be careful as some fluid will come out of the oil strainer.
NOTE:
Fluid type: ATF WS
