Inspection Procedure

Hand-held tester: 

  1. Connect hand-held tester, and check operation of VSV for ACIS. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main switch ON.
    3. Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the hand-held tester.

    CHECK: 

    Check operation of the VSV when the VSV is operated by the hand-held tester.

    OK: 

    1. VSV is ON: 
    2. Air from port E flows out through port F. 
    3. VSV is OFF: 
    4. Air from port E flows out through the air filter.

    1. OK: Go to step   4 . 
    2. NG: Go To Next Step. 
  2. Check VSV for ACIS (See  VSV FOR ACOUSTIC CONTROL INDUCTION SYSTEM (ACIS)  ). 
    1. NG: Replace VSV for ACIS. 
    2. OK: Go To Next Step. 
  3. Check for open and short in harness and connector between EFI main relay (Marking: EFI) and ECM (See  HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ). 
    1. NG: Repair or replace harness or connector. 
    2. OK: Go To Next Step. 
  4. Check vacuum hoses between intake manifold and intake air control valve. 

    CHECK: 

    Check that the vacuum hoses are:

    • Connected correctly.
    • Are not loose or disconnected.
    • Do not have cracks, holes or damages.
    1. NG: Repair or replace vacuum hose. 
    2. OK: Go To Next Step. 
  5. Check intake air control valve (See  ACOUSTIC CONTROL INDUCTION SYSTEM (ACIS)  ). 
    1. NG: Replace intake air control valve. 
    2. OK: Replace ECM (See  ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM)  ). 

OBD II scan tool (excluding hand-held tester): 

  1. Check VSV for ACIS (See  VSV FOR ACOUSTIC CONTROL INDUCTION SYSTEM (ACIS)  ). 
    1. NG: Replace VSV for ACIS. 
    2. OK: Go To Next Step. 
  2. Check voltage between terminal ACIS of ECM connector and body ground. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Remove the ECM hood (See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) ).
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.

    CHECK: 

    Measure the voltage between terminal ACIS of the ECM connector and body ground.

    OK: 

    1. Voltage: 9 to 14 V

    1. OK: Go to step   4 . 
    2. NG: Go To Next Step. 
  3. Check for open and short in harness and connector between EFI main relay (Marking: EFI) and ECM (See  HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ). 
    1. NG: Repair or replace harness or connector. 
    2. OK: Go To Next Step. 
  4. Check vacuum hoses between intake manifold and intake air control valve. 

    CHECK: 

    Check that the vacuum hoses are:

    • Connected correctly.
    • Are not loose or disconnected.
    • Do not have cracks, holes or damages.
    1. NG: Repair or replace vacuum hose. 
    2. OK: Go To Next Step. 
  5. Check intake air control valve (See  ACOUSTIC CONTROL INDUCTION SYSTEM (ACIS)  ). 
    1. NG: Replace intake air control valve. 
    2. OK: Replace ECM (See  ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM)  ).
