Power Tilt And Power Telescopic Steering Column - Diagnostics: Inspection

INSPECT UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSY

Measure the resistance of the switch.

Standard:

TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION TABLE

Tester Connection	Switch Condition	Specified Condition
1 - 2	Pushed	Below 1 ohms
1 - 2	Not pushed	10 k ohms or higher

If the result is not as specified, replace the switch assy.

INSPECT TILT STEERING GEAR ASSY W/ MOTOR

Apply battery voltage to the telescopic motor connector and check the operation of the column.

OK:

MEASUREMENT CONDITION SPECIFIED CONDITION TABLE

Measurement Condition	Specified Condition
Battery positive (+) --> Terminal 4 Battery negative (-) --> Terminal 3	Column tilts upward
Battery positive (+) --> Terminal 3 Battery negative (-) --> Terminal 4	Column tilts downward
Battery positive (+) --> Terminal 6 Battery negative (-) --> Terminal 5	Column contracts
Battery positive (+) --> Terminal 5 Battery negative (-) --> Terminal 6	Column extends

If the result is not as specified, replace the tilt steering gear assy.

INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSY

Measure the resistance of the switch.

TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION TABLE

If the continuity is not as specified, replace the switch.
