Rear Axle Hub: Installation

CAUTION: When the brake caliper is removed from the brake disc, do not start the hybrid system. If the hybrid system is started, the brake fluid pressure may increase.
  1. TURN POWER SWITCH OFF 
    1. Turn the power switch OFF, and check that the "READY" indicator turns off.
  2. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY 
    1. Hold the axle hub and bearing in a vise between aluminum plates.
      NOTE: Do not overtighten the vise.
    2. Install the axle hub and bearing to the rear axle carrier with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 70 N*m (714 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf)

  3. INSTALL REAR NO. 2 WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR 
    1. Using SST and a hammer, install the No. 2 bearing dust deflector to the rear axle carrier.

      SST 09951-01000, 09950-70010 (09951-07150) 

      HINT:

      Align the hole for the speed sensor in the No. 2 bearing dust deflector with the rear axle carrier.

  4. INSTALL REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the rear drive shaft to the rear axle.
  5. INSTALL REAR UPPER NO. 2 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the rear No. 2 upper control arm to the rear axle carrier with a new nut.

      Torque: 70 N*m (714 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf)

  6. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR UPPER NO. 1 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY 
    1. Temporarily tighten the rear upper control arm to the rear axle carrier with the bolt, washer and nut.

      HINT:

      Install the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and lightly tighten the bolt.

  7. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY 
    1. Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm to the rear axle carrier with the bolt and nut.

      HINT:

      Install the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and lightly tighten the bolt.

  8. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY 
    1. Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm to the rear axle carrier with the bolt and nut.

      HINT:

      Install the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and lightly tighten the bolt.

  9. CONNECT TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the toe control link to the rear axle carrier with a new nut.

      Torque: 70 N*m (714 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf)

  10. CONNECT LOAD SENSING VALVE SENSOR BRACKET  (See INSTALLATION )
  11. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE  (See REASSEMBLY )
  12. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE ANCHOR BLOCK 
    1. Install the parking brake anchor block to the rear axle carrier with the 2 nuts.

      Torque: 76 N*m (775 kgf*cm, 56 ft.*lbf)

  13. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER  (See REASSEMBLY )
  14. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY  (See REASSEMBLY )
  15. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY  (See REASSEMBLY )
  16. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET  (See REASSEMBLY )
  17. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING  (See REASSEMBLY )
  18. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING  (See REASSEMBLY )
  19. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION  (See REASSEMBLY )
  20. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR  (See INSTALLATION )
  21. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT 
    1. While applying the brakes, install a new rear axle shaft nut.

      Torque: 290 N*m (2,957 kgf*cm, 214 ft.*lbf) 

  22. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION   ) 
  23. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION   ) 
  24. INSTALL REAR DISC  (See INSTALLATION )
  25. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE  (See PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM )
  26. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY  (See REASSEMBLY )
  27. STAKE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT 
    1. Using a chisel and a hammer, stake the axle shaft nut.

  28. STABILIZE SUSPENSION  (See INSTALLATION )
  29. TIGHTEN REAR UPPER NO. 1 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY 
    1. Tighten the rear upper control arm with the nut.

      Torque: 161 N*m (1,642 kgf*cm, 119 in.*lbf)

  30. TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY 
    1. Tighten the rear suspension arm with the bolt and nut.

      Torque: 95 N*m (969 kgf*cm, 70 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Turn the bolt while holding the nut.

  31. TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY 
    1. Tighten the rear suspension arm with the bolt and nut.

      Torque: 161 N*m (1,642 kgf*cm, 119 in.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Turn the bolt while holding the nut.

  32. INSTALL REAR WHEEL 

    Torque: 103 N*m (1,050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf) 

  33. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL  (See PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM )
  34. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL  (See ADJUSTMENT )
  35. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT 
    1. Inspect and adjust the rear wheel alignment (See REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT ).
  36. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL  (See INSPECTION )
