Check Mode Procedure
HINT:
- DTCs can be detected more sensitively in check mode than in normal diagnosis mode.
- Perform check mode inspection when a malfunction in each squib circuit is suspected even after the normal system code is output through normal diagnosis mode inspection.
- CHECK MODE PROCEDURE (Using Intelligent Tester or Techstream)
- Check and ensure the following conditions:
- Battery positive voltage 11 V or more.
- Throttle valve fully closed.
- Transmission in the P or N positions.
- A/C switch OFF.
- Turn the engine switch off.
- Connect the intelligent tester or Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the engine switch on (IG).
- Turn the tester ON.
- Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / CHECK MODE
- Techstream - Select: Body Electrical / SRS Airbag / Check Mode
- Switch the ECM from normal mode.
- Make sure the MIL flashes as shown in the illustration.
- Start the engine.
- Make sure the MIL turns off.
- Simulate the conditions of the malfunction described by the customer.
- Check DTCs and freeze frame data using the tester.
- Check and ensure the following conditions:
