How To Proceed With Troubleshooting

HINT:

Use this procedure to troubleshoot the engine immobilizer system.

The intelligent tester should be in used steps 3,4, 5 and 7.

  1. VEHICLE BROUGHT TO WORKSHOP 
  2. CHECK HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM 
    1. Check hybrid control system.

    Result

    When the ignition switch is turned to the ACC or ON position, the vehicle does not respond normally and the hybrid control system also does not start. A
    When the ignition switch is turned to the ACC or ON position, the vehicle responds normally, but the hybrid control system does not start. B

    B:  GO TO HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM

    A: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT COMMUNICATION FUNCTION OF MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (BEAN) 
    1. Use the intelligent tester to check for normal function of the multiplex communication system.
      1. (ECU unconnected, communication line malfunctioning) With out code outputs, proceed to A.
      2. (ECU unconnected, communication line malfunctioning) With code outputs, proceed to B.

    B: GO TO  MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION 

    A: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output.
    2. Delete the DTC.
    3. Recheck for DTCs. Try to prompt the DTC by simulating the original activity that the DTC suggested.
      1. If DTC does not reoccurs, proceed to A.
      2. If DTC reoccurs, proceed to B (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART ).

    B: GO TO  DTC CHART  

    A: Go to next step 

  5. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester (with CAN VIM) to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on and turn the intelligent tester main switch on.
    3. Select item KEY SW in the DATA LIST and read the value displayed on the intelligent tester.

    ECU DIAGNOSTIC CHART

    Item Measurement Item/Display (Range) Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
    KEY SW Unlock warning switch signal /ON or OFF ON: Key is in ignition key cylinder
    OFF: No key is in ignition key cylinder
    -

    OK: Both ON (Key is in ignition key cylinder) and OFF (No key is in ignition key cylinder) appear on the screen. 

    NG: GO TO  DTC B2780  

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 
    1. If the fault is not listed on the problem symptoms table, proceed to A.
    2. If the fault is listed on the problem symptoms table, proceed to B.

    B: After repair, go to step   8 

    A: Go to next step 

  7. OVERALL ANALYSIS AND TROUBLESHOOTING 
    1. Inspection with the intelligent tester (ECU DATA MONITOR).
    2. Inspection with the intelligent tester (ACTIVE TEST).
    3. (See TERMINALS OF ECU  ).
  8. ADJUST, REPAIR OR REPLACE 
  9. CONFIRMATION TEST
