Inspection Procedure

NOTE: The vehicle is equipped with an SRS such as the airbags. Before servicing (including removal or installation of parts), be sure to read the precautionary notice for the airbag system (See SYSTEM DESCRIPTION ).
  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO RECEIVER - BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the E62 (*1) or E47 (*2) receiver connector.
    2. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector.

    Standard voltage 

    STANDARD VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS

    Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
    E62-2 (ILL+) - Body ground (*1) Light control switch TAIL or HEAD 10 to 14 V
    E47-10 (ILL+) - Body ground (*2) Light control switch TAIL or HEAD 10 to 14 V
    HINT:
    *1: for Premium sound models
    *2: for Standard models

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: GO to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO RECEIVER - COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Disconnect the E62 (*1) or E48 (*2) receiver connector.
    2. Disconnect the E19 meter connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

    Standard resistance 

    STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    E62-12 (ILL-) - E19-36 (IND1) (*1) Below 1 Ω
    E48-5 (ILL-) - E19-36 (IND1) (*2) Below 1 Ω
    HINT:
    *1: for Premium sound models
    *2: for Standard models

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: GO to next step 

  3. CONFIRM MODEL 
    1. Check if the steering pad switch is equipped on the vehicle.

    Result 

    DTC RESULT DESCRIPTION

    Result Proceed to
    with Steering Pad Switch A
    without Steering Pad Switch B

    B: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  

    A: GO to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL CABLE - RADIO RECEIVER AND BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the E7 cable connector.
    2. Disconnect the E49 receiver connector.
    3. Measure the voltage and resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

    Standard voltage 

    STANDARD VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS

    Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
    E7-12 (IL+2) - Body ground Light control switch TAIL or HEAD 10 to 14 V

    Standard resistance 

    STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    E7-4 (EAU) - E49-6 (SWG) Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: GO to next step 

  5. INSPECT STEERING PAD SWITCH 
    1. Disconnect the a1 steering pad switch connector.

    2. Connect the positive (+) lead to terminal ILL+ and the negative (-) lead to terminal EAU of the steering pad switch connector.
    3. Check if the illumination for the steering pad switch comes on.

      OK: 

      Illumination for the steering pad switch assembly comes on. 

      NG: REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH 

      OK: GO to next step 

  6. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the cable connector.
    2. Measure the resistance of the cable.

    Standard resistance 

    STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    E7-4 (EAU) - 8 (EAU) Below 1 Ω
    E7-12 (IL+2) - 5 (IL+2) Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
