Inspection Procedure

  1. INSPECT FUSE (ECU-B2) 
    1. Remove the ECU-B2 fuse from the engine room No. 2 relay block.
    2. Measure the resistance of the fuse.

      Standard resistance: Below 1 Ω 

    NG: REPLACE FUSE 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 

  2. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (TRANSPONDER KEY ECU - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the E46 ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance and voltage of the wire harness side connector. (See Fig 1).

      Standard resistance 

      WIRE HARNESS (TRANSPONDER KEY ECU - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND) RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E46-16 (GND) - Body ground Below 1 Ω

      Standard voltage 

      WIRE HARNESS (TRANSPONDER KEY ECU - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND) VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E46-1 (+B) - Body ground 10 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
