Inspection Procedure

NOTE: The vehicle is equipped with an SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) which includes components such as airbags. Before servicing (including removal or installation of parts), be sure to read the precautionary notice for the supplemental restraint system (See PRECAUTION ).
  1. CHECK ILLUMINATION 
    1. Check if the illumination for the radio receiver, steering pad switch, or others (back sonar switch, hazard switch, etc.) comes on when the light control switch is turned to the HEAD or TAIL position.

      Result 

      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      Illumination conies on for all components except steering pad switch. A
      Illumination comes on for all components except radio receiver. B
      No illumination comes on (radio receiver, back sonar switch, hazard switch, etc.). C

    B: GO TO LIGHTING SYSTEM  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

    C:  Go to step  6

    A: Go to Next Step 

  2. INSPECT STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the steering pad switch assembly connector.
    2. Connect the positive (+) lead to terminal ILL+ and the negative (-) lead to terminal EAU of the steering pad switch assembly connector.

    3. Check if the illumination for the steering pad switch assembly comes on.

      OK: Illumination for the steering pad switch assembly comes on. 

    NG: REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  3. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE 
    1. Disconnect the E17 steering pad switch assembly and spiral cable connectors.

    3. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester connection Specified condition
      Terminal 10 (EAU) main switch side - EAU(E17-10) Below 1 Ω
      Terminal 1 (ILL+) main switch side - ILL+(E17-1) Below 1 Ω
      NOTE: The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may prevent the airbag from deploying. Be sure to read the page shown in the brackets.

      HINT:

    4. Reconnect the steering pad switch assembly connector.
    5. Reconnect the spiral cable connector.

    NG: REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - SPIRAL CABLE) 
    1. Disconnect the E17 spiral cable connector.

    3. Measure the voltage.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      E17-1 (ILL+) - Body ground Light control SW TAIL or HEAD 11 to 14 V
    4. Reconnect the spiral cable connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL CABLE - RADIO RECEIVER) 
    1. Disconnect the E43 receiver connector.

    3. Disconnect the E17 spiral cable connector.
    4. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E43-6 (SWG) - E17-10 (SWG) Below 1 Ω
      E43-6 (SWG) or E17-10 (SWG) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    5. Reconnect the receiver connector.
    6. Reconnect the spiral cable connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER  (See REMOVAL  )

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - RADIO RECEIVER) 
    1. Disconnect the E41 receiver connector.

    3. Measure the voltage.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      E41-10(ILL+) - Body ground Light control SW TAIL or HEAD 11 to 14 V
    4. Reconnect the receiver connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO RECEIVER - LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT) 
    1. Disconnect the E42 receiver connector.

    3. Disconnect the E4 light control rheostat connector.
    4. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E42-6 (ILL-) - E4-3 (-) Below 1 Ω
      E42-6 (ILL-) or E4-3 (-) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    5. Reconnect the receiver connector.
    6. Reconnect the light control rheostat connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER  (See REMOVAL  )
