Extension Housing Rear Oil Seal: Replacement

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  2. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR CENTER BRACE 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and floor center brace.
  3. DISCONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (for Sensor 2) 
    1. Disconnect the sensor (see REMOVAL ).
  4. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 
  5. REMOVE CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 
  6. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR NO. 1 HEAT INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and insulator.
  7. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE CABLE HEAT INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and insulator.
  8. REMOVE PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly (see REMOVAL ).
  9. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID 
    1. Remove the drain plug, and gasket and drain the ATF.
    2. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

      Torque: 20 N*m (205 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)

  10. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLANGE YOKE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST and a hammer, loosen the staked part of the nut.

      SST 09930-00010 

      HINT:

      Move the shift lever to the P position.

    2. Set SST.

      SST 09330-00021,09950-30012 (09955-03040)

    3. Using SST and a 30 mm socket wrench, remove the nut.
    4. Remove SST.
    5. Tap the output flange with a plastic-faced hammer to remove it.

    6. Using a screwdriver, remove the oil seal from the automatic transmission flange yoke.

  11. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION EXTENSION HOUSING OIL SEAL 
    1. Using SST, tap out the oil seal.

      SST 09308-00010 

  12. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION EXTENSION HOUSING OIL SEAL 
    1. Coat the lip of a new oil seal with MP grease.
    2. Using SST and a hammer, tap in the oil seal.

      SST 09309-37010 

      Standard depth: 1.8 to 2.2 mm (0.07 to 0.09 in.)

  13. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLANGE YOKE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST and a hammer, tap in a new oil seal.

      SST 09517-36010 

    2. Install the automatic transmission flange yoke.
    3. Set SST.

      SST 09330-00021, 09950-30012 (09955-03040)

    4. Using SST and a 30 mm socket wrench, install and tighten a new nut.

      Torque: 126 N*m (1,285 kgf*cm, 93 ft.*lbf) 

    5. Using a chisel and hammer, securely stake the nut.
  14. INSTALL PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly (see INSTALLATION ).

  15. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE CABLE HEAT INSULATOR 
    1. Install the insulator with the 4 bolts.
  16. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR NO. 1 HEAT INSULATOR 
    1. Install the insulator with the 4 bolts.
  17. INSTALL CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 

    Torque: 43 N*m (438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf) 

  18. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 

    Torque: 43 N*m (438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf) 

  19. CONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (for Sensor 2) 
    1. Connect the sensor (see INSTALLATION ).
  20. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR CENTER BRACE 
    1. Install the floor brace with the 4 bolts.
  21. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  22. ADD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID 
    1. Add automatic transmission fluid (see ADJUSTMENT  ).
  23. PERFORM INITIALIZATION 
    1. Perform initialization (see INITIALIZATION ).
      NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  24. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKAGE
