Shift Lever: Installation

  1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the floor shift assembly with the 4 bolts.
      NOTE: Do not allow the wire harness to get caught between the parts.

      Torque: 8.3 N*m (85 kgf*cm, 74 in.*lbf) 

    2. Connect the 6 clamps to the floor shift assembly.
    3. Connect the 2 connectors to the floor shift assembly.

  2. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn the control shaft lever of the neutral start switch counterclockwise until it stops, and turn it clockwise 2 notches to set it to the N position.

    2. Move the shift lever to the N position and tighten the nut while lightly pushing the lever toward the R position.

      Torque: 13 N*m (130 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Do not push the shift lever too hard.

  3. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR NO. 1 HEAT INSULATOR  (See INSTALLATION )
  4. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR COVER CENTER RH 
    1. Install the front floor cover center RH with the 3 grommets.

      Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)

  5. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  6. INSTALL REAR FLOOR NO. 1 PANEL BRACE  (See INSTALLATION )
  7. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER  (See INSTALLATION )
  8. INSTALL HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR 
    1. Install the heated oxygen sensor (See INSTALLATION ).
  9. INSTALL NO. 2 CONSOLE BOX DUCT  (See INSTALLATION )
  10. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  11. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  12. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX PLATE  (See INSTALLATION )
  13. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  14. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH  (See INSTALLATION )
  15. INSTALL UPPER CONSOLE PANEL ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  16. INSTALL FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH  (See INSTALLATION )
  17. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB 
    1. Install the shift lever knob and twist it in the direction indicated by the arrow.

  18. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  19. INSTALL BATTERY SERVICE HOLE COVER LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  20. INSTALL LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR MAT 
  21. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION  (See ADJUSTMENT  )
  22. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION  (See ADJUSTMENT  )
  23. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER OPERATION  (See ADJUSTMENT  )
  24. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS  (See INSTALLATION )
  25. PERFORM INITIALIZATION 
    1. Perform initialization (See INITIALIZATION ).
      NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after reconnecting the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
