Stop Light Control Relay: Inspection

  1. INSPECT STOP LIGHT CONTROL RELAY 
    1. Disconnect the J96 stop light control relay connector
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J96-2 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal released Below 1 V
      Brake pedal depressed 11 to 14 V
      J96-6 (+B) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V

      If the result is not as specified, there is a malfunction on the wire harness side.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J96-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      If the result is not as specified, there is a malfunction on the wire harness side.

    4. Reconnect the J96 stop light control relay connector
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below

      Standard Voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J96-8 (OUT) - Body ground Brake pedal released Below 1 V
      Brake pedal depressed 11 to 14 V

      If the result is not as specified, replace the stop light control relay
