Differential Oil: Replacement

  1. INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL OIL 
    1. Stop the vehicle on a level place
    2. Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the differential filler plug and gasket.

    3. Check that the oil surface is within 5 mm (0.197 in) of the lowest position of the inner surface of the differential filler plug opening

      NOTE:
      • Excessively large or small amounts of oil may cause trouble.
      • After replacing oil, drive the vehicle and check the oil level.

      HINT

      If necessary, fill the rear differential carrier with differential synthetic gear oil

    4. Inspect for oil leak if the oil level is low
    5. Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), install the differential filler plug with a new gasket.

      Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf) 

  2. ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL 
    1. Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the differential filler plug and gasket.
    2. Add oil

      Capacity: 

      1.3 to 1.4 liters (1.4 to 1.5 US qts, 1.1 to 1.2 lmp. qts) 

      Oil grade: 

      Toyota genuine differential gear oil LT 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent

    3. Check the oil level.
    4. Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), install the differential filler plug with a new gasket

      Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE: After replacing the oil, recheck the oil level after driving.
